VFX in Greece

Just another Greek VFX site

Home

My name is Nick Pittas and I work as a freelance compositor for Broadcast and Feature Films.

Here are some historical facts about me
I started as a 3D Artist back at 1992 with 3D Studio 2 and some of Yost’s plugins. Later I jumped to Lighwave 5 for some episodic TV at 1994, and by 2000 I had used almost every software in the Post Production Market in Greece at that time.

I used Speed Razor for Editing, with the Preception and/or the Targa Video Cards for real time previewing, Media100, Discreet Edit and of course Avid Symphony. Later I jumped to the FCP train and since CS 5 I am trying Adobe Premiere. I already got the Adobe Suite and Avid Media Composer (my “bff” works for Avid’s division in Greece, so I wouldn’t want to make him mad)!

For Compositing, back at 1998-2000 we could only afford to work with Combustion, After effects, and Commotion. Either way composition in Athens was done mainly by Flint/Flame/Inferno (yes we had 5 Inferno in Athens alone!!!).

From 2000 till 2006 I was a Flame Artist (along many things) and a Senior Editor. Not a very good thing to be (an editor and compositor at the same time) but I tend to work from start to finish. And that’s only because I have to, for specifically geographic reasons. You see, here in Greece you have to be a one man band, since the budgets have shrink more that 50% from the economic crisis!

Now, for the last 6 years I am a VFX supervisor and Senior Compositor, owner of moeffect (my own personal company) and co-founder of candyshopvfx, a new and really great VFX boutique, that’s taking jobs from around the globe.

I am also an Official Nuke Trainer and Demonstrator for the Foundry.

My software of choice is Nuke for compositing and Smoke for Finishing.

Anyway, thats my short bio.
